About 85% of Ugandans today were born after 1986. Growing up in the shadow of the 90s HIV/AIDS pandemic, over 1.7 million children from that era were left orphaned. This created a massive generation of Ugandan youth who had to teach themselves how to be adults. Sadly, most of them have given up and submitted fully to eternal childhood. I wrote this poem to remind you all that growing up is not optional, and that Uganda is facing dark days ahead—which will be even darker for you if you are still a child.
